Kevin R. Skelsey, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Skelsey completed his 8 years of medical education in Dallas, Texas.  He attended medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and completed an internship in internal medicine at Presbyterian Hospital prior to starting his ophthalmology training.  While in medical school, he served as a student teacher in Anatomy and Cellular Biology.  During his studies at Trinity University, Dr. Skelsey graduated Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  Dr. Skelsey received his ophthalmology training at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

As board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Skelsey is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, and American College of Surgeons.

He was past president of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and attends various monthly meetings and goes to annual meetings to stay up-to-date on all of the latest technology.

Dr. Skelsey and his wife Molly, a PhD in immunology, have three children. They enjoy outdoor activities such as backpacking, camping, fishing, running, golf, and spending time together as a family. They live in Lee’s Summit and are very involved in school district activities and the Down Syndrome Guild.

Kelsey J. Kleinsasser, O.D.

Dr. Kleinsasser was raised in South Dakota. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he received a degree in biology. He was a member of the Augustana Vikings football team for four years. Dr. Kleinsasser earned his optometry doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry. He completed externships at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, IL, Omni Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD, and the West Side Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Kleinsasser then completed a residency in cornea and refractive surgery at Hunkeler Eye Centers in Kansas City, MO.

At Summit Eye Center, Dr. Kleinsasser focuses on the clinical management of glaucoma, cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Heart of America Eye Care Congress (past president), Missouri Optometric Association and Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City (past president). He has been an investigator in clinical studies for numerous surgical devices and medications.

Dr. Kleinsasser lives in Lee’s Summit with his wife, Heather, and two sons. Dr. Kleinsasser enjoys sports, physical fitness, traveling, cooking and spending time with his family.

Michelle Kindler, O.D.

Dr. Kindler was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She attended St. John Fischer College in Rochester, NY where she was a biology major and chemistry minor. Dr. Kindler obtained her optometry doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry while also completing a master’s program in Low Vision Rehabilitation. She completed externships in ocular disease at Capital Eye Consultants in Fairfax, Virginia and Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska. Dr. Kindler also completed a primary care and vision rehabilitation externship at Optometric Care outside Pittsburg, PA. She completed her residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation at the William Feinbloom Low Vision Center in Philadelphia.

After residency, Dr. Kindler moved to Sedalia, MO where she worked at Sedalia Eye Associates traveling between Warsaw and Sedalia for 19 years until the practice was sold and became part of Summit Eye Center.

Dr. Kindler lives in Smithton, MO with her husband and three kids. Most of her free time is spent with her family and supporting her kids in their various school, sporting, and 4H activities. When not running kids around, Dr. Kindler likes to have fun with her family cooking, camping, and hiking around the family farm.

William L. White, M.D.

Dr. William L. White grew up in the Kansas City Northland graduating from Oak Park High School, where he was recently inducted into the OPHS Hall of Fame. Dr. White was a chemistry major at UMKC, where he was recognized as a University Scholar, and he subsequently attended medical school at St. Louis University as a Health Profession Scholarship Program recipient for the US Army. Dr. White completed a Transitional Internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado and was afterwards a Flight Surgeon at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Afterwards, he was a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Ft. Knox, Kentucky which coincided with the Desert Storm military operation. Dr. White completed his Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

William L. White, M.D. is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). He is a member of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians (MoSEPS) and Surgeons and the Missouri Medical Association (MSMA).

Dr. White has received many awards throughout his career including the following:

• Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award for Dr. White’s medical missions work in Haiti
• Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology
• Golden Medallion Lifetime Achievement Award from the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons
• Dr. White has been recognized as one of “Fifty Missourians You Should Know” by Ingram’s

Dr. White has three grown sons and nine grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, shooting, hunting, and woodworking amongst other outdoor activities.

James R. Overlease, M.D.

James R. Overlease, M.D., grew up in southeastern Oklahoma. He is board-certified, practicing comprehensive ophthalmology while specializing in glaucoma and cataract management and surgeries. Dr. Overlease has over two decades of surgical experience.

Dr. Overlease graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Tulsa. He worked as a drilling engineer and proceeded to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas - Houston. He completed a medical internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dr. Overlease completed his ophthalmology residency training at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. During his final year of residency, he was selected as chief resident. Dr. Overlease furthered his training by completing a glaucoma fellowship at the Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

Dr. Overlease is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Glaucoma Society (AGS), and the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (MoSEPS).

Dr. Overlease and his wife, Julie, married in 2000. They are actively engaged with their three daughters and son, supporting them in athletic, academic, and faith-centered endeavors. Dr. Overlease enjoys many outdoor pursuits and prioritizes physical wellness. The family resides in Prairie Village, Kansas.
