Dr. Kevin Skelsey lives in the Lee’s Summit community and has 14 years of experience in providing the highest-quality eye care to patients. As our practice has expanded, we have been able to grow in space, staff, and treatment options while still maintaining a personable eye experience to each and every one of our patients.

Meet Our Doctors

Kevin Skelsey

Kevin R. Skelsey, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Skelsey completed his 8 years of medical education in Dallas, Texas.  He attended medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and completed an internship in internal medicine at Presbyterian Hospital prior to starting his ophthalmology training.  While in medical school, he served as a student teacher in Anatomy and Cellular Biology.  During his studies at Trinity University, Dr. Skelsey graduated Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  Dr. Skelsey received his ophthalmology training at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

As board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Skelsey is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, and American College of Surgeons.

He was past president of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and attends various monthly meetings and goes to annual meetings to stay up-to-date on all of the latest technology.

Dr. Skelsey and his wife Molly, a PhD in immunology, have three children. They enjoy outdoor activities such as backpacking, camping, fishing, running, golf, and spending time together as a family. They live in Lee’s Summit and are very involved in school district activities and the Down Syndrome Guild.

Kelsey J. Kleinsasser, O.D.

Dr. Kleinsasser was raised in South Dakota. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, where he received a degree in biology. He was a member of the Augustana Vikings football team for four years. Dr. Kleinsasser earned his optometry doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry. He completed externships at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, IL, Omni Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD, and the West Side Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Kleinsasser then completed a residency in cornea and refractive surgery at Hunkeler Eye Centers in Kansas City, MO.

At Summit Eye Center, Dr. Kleinsasser focuses on the clinical management of glaucoma, cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Heart of America Eye Care Congress (past president), Missouri Optometric Association and Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City (past president). He has been an investigator in clinical studies for numerous surgical devices and medications.

Dr. Kleinsasser lives in Lee’s Summit with his wife, Heather, and two sons. Dr. Kleinsasser enjoys sports, physical fitness, traveling, cooking and spending time with his family.
