Fitness Trends and LASIK

runner

Spring brings with it a renewed energy to tackle the latest fitness trends as we strive to improve our physical fitness. If you are a HIIT enthusiast, swimmer or jogger...LASIK can make your workout experience better. This week’s blog will breakdown how glasses can be a hindrance with various fitness routines.

HIIT

burpie

High-intensity interval training is a popular fitness routine these days. With HIIT, you alternate brief periods of high-intensity exercises with short rest periods. These short all-out bursts of activity really get one’s heart pumping and are a great fat burner. But glasses bouncing up and down in the middle of a set of burpies can really kill a workout.

SWIMMINGswimmer

Swimming provides a great workout while taking the impact stress off your body. Glasses obviously don’t work in the pool. Prescription goggles are expensive and depending on one’s prescription, may not provide crisp vision.

BODY WEIGHT TRAINING

Body weight training has an advantage in that it requires no expensive equipment and can be done anywhere. Push-ups, planks and body weight squats are a great way to get you sweating. But, how easy is it to push up your glasses as they slip down your nose in the middle of a 60 second plank?

RUNNING

Running is a tried and true method to get your heart rate up and burn calories. Running can also offer variety in scenery for your workout with the unlimited choice of running routes. It also provides the flexibility of a treadmill when the weather doesn’t cooperate. It is easy to become annoyed by the constant bouncing up and down of one’s glasses with each stride...definitely prevents that “runner’s high”.

YOGA

Yoga can provide a number of health benefits such as improved flexibility, strength and muscle tone. It can also lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia. Whether you enjoy traditional yoga, hot yoga or even goat yoga...it is a great way to break a sweat and improve your physical fitness. Maintaining a downward dog pose can be difficult if your glasses are sliding down your face.

OUTDOOR WORKOUTS

Exercise in the great outdoors can be a refreshing experience. Hiking, skiing and rock climbing are great examples of mixing outdoor scenery with a great workout. Nothing can destroy a great hike more than a pop-up shower that leaves you wishing your glasses came with wiper blades.

LASIK provides a safe, effective treatment for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It can eliminate the need for glasses when you jump into whatever fitness routine you enjoy. It can also eliminate the maintenance hassle of putting in contacts each morning and then taking them out each night.
